Last year more than 2,000 men and women received free screenings for the maladies listed below. Healthy foods were served, demonstrations on preparing a healthy diet were presented and there was also great entertainment.

This year, at Pasadena City  College there will be:

  • more sponsors

is the Director of Public Health for the city of Pasadena and is the immediate past President of the California Academy of Preventive Medicine. He will be speaking on confronting the epidemic of American obesity.

DIABETES > Empower Yourself: What you need to know about diabetes and pre-diabetes

Goh

Ying-Ying Goh, MD, MSHS,

is a pediatrician and Medical Director for Programs and Research at the City of Pasadena Public Health Department. Dr. Goh currently manages a program to improve disease prevention and clinical care for Type II Diabetes patients in community clinics. She completed her medical degree at Stanford Medical School, residency at Boston Children’s  Hospital and Boston Medical Center, and a fellowship and master’s degree in health services research at UCLA’s School of Public Health.

Franco Reyna

is an Associate Director at the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Los Angeles Area. He is spearheading various diabetes outreach and education efforts for Latinos in the Los Angeles area under the ADA’s Por Tu Familia Program.

Mihir Desai, MD,

is a nationally, internationally recognized expert in robotic, laparoscopic and endourologic surgery. He completed his fellowship at the Cleveland clinic in 2003, and was appointed faculty at the Glickman Urological Institute. He is Professor of Clinical Urology at USC and serves as the Director of the Robotic Urologic Surgery program at the USC Institute of Urology.

Mateo Levine Ledezma, MD

is a Nephrologist and Medical Director of the Hemodialysis Unit at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.
He received his undergraduate bachelor’s degree from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. His official titles include Clinic Director of the LGBTI Center and Director of the Nocturnal Hemodialysis Program at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.

Daniel Park, MD,

is a graduate of the Keck School of Medicine of USC Physician Assistant Program, where he completed his training with honors in 1996. He also holds a Master’s in Health Administration from the USC Price School of Public Policy where he graduated with honors. He serves as USC’s Director of Clinical Operations within the Institute of Urology.

Mukul Patil, MD,

is a graduate of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is part of the USC Institute of Urology and will be completing his urologic residency training in June 2013. He is the Institute’s first Fellow in Genitourinary Prosthetics and Male reconstruction, where he will focus on improving patient’s quality of life after surgery.

John Tirabasso Youth Jazz Band

An organization formed by mainly San Gabriel-area musicians in 2012 that provides young musicians from middle-grade and high schools throughout the community the opportunity to learn and perform the greatest music of America, within an arrangement spanning from big bands to trios. The group is named in honor of an Altadena jazz drummer who died in 2010.

Dave Victorino’s Little Big Band

Features Latin Jazz, Jazz Standards, Contemporary/World music, Swing and Big Band
Sounds. Dave has been playing saxophone and flute on the L.A. music scene for 25 years. He has performed live with The Temptations, Little Anthony and The Imperials, Fred Ramirez, Henry Mora’s Big Band, Helen Slater and many others, and has been recorded on movie sound tracks such as “Chasing Tchaikovsky.”
